David Hayes makes one of his brilliant but all too rare forays into the realm of public discourse with this piece on the future of Britain.
He concludes that muddling through is not an option. This is the right thing to say.
But I would guess that David knows as well as anybody that - barring a sustained series of attacks or other dramatic events that truly revolutionise the political landscape - muddling through is the most likely path, with potentially disasterous consequences.
